Purity; A Precious Subject That Society Views as “Unimportant.”

Purity is one of those topics that no one really wants to talk about or they either roll their eyes and complain about “how they have heard this before” or “do I really need another lesson on why purity is important?” Though I’m pretty sure everyone reading this is aware of purity and it’s meaning, it never hurts to revist the subject due to to changing times in our soceity.

Out society views purity as “unimportant” or “not a serious matter,” yet it is quite serious. As believers in Christ we view purity as highly important due to the consequences that follow when you give up your purity before you are married, but the world laughs and continues as they are with no fear of who they are hurting or their own spiritual and physical health.

The world normally asks, “Why is purity so important,” but that is where we need to be equipped with the utmost knowledge in this subject, so let’s see why purity really is important!

“Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot? Certainly not!  Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For “the two,” He says, “shall become one flesh.” But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.

Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.  Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.” 1 Corithians 6:15-20

As we can see from the verses about, purity is dear to the Lord’s heart. Though the world is out having sex with everyone, the Lord says that you become one, which is why it is important to maintain your purity until you are married. Our body is also the temply of the Holy Spirt; therefore, we must not fall into the sexual sins that they world may say is “okay,” for it can damage our soul.

“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.” James 4:8

Purity isn’t only sexual for it also deals with our hearts. When we draw near to God, He will cleanse our hands and purify our hearts! He will wash away the filthiness that has left residue in our hearts, He will wash away the impurities that have us in chains, and He will make us new!

“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.” Philippians 4:8

When it comes to the things that we ponder on, we should think of things that are pure, just, and noble. Whenever we think of something, we will eventually do it; therefore, we must set our minds on things that are good in the eyes of God. When we lose the battle over our minds, we lose the battle over our bodies, so that is why it is important that we control what thoughts we have and what we allow our mind to meditate on.

Though our society says purity isn’t a big deal, we should view it as important for purity is important to the Lord. Though the world says it is okay to give away your purity to anyone you want, we should have the desire and the conviction to wait for we know the severity and the consequences that come with giving it away before we are married.

The evil that is inside people’s hearts is why we should cling to purity, for when we accept Christ, He purifies our hearts. This is why the world cannot comprehend the subject of purity, for they are lost, but those who are found understand the concept loud and clear. Although society may view us as “outcasts,” we must not back down from our faith, convictions, or beliefs, for we know what the Lord says, what He expects, and how we ought to act.
